Collectible & highly decorative ruffled/wavy dish made in the Canadian prairies during the 1960's-1970's. The maker's mark on the underside reads: "Seetusee Glassware by Mayfair, Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Canada. M64. To clean wipe only with damp cloth."
The pattern is very evocative of the Aurora Borelis / Northern Lights in an intense galaxy-like swirled pallette of metallic purples, pinks, reds and gold. The dish was made from West German double-diamond window glass that was heated and molded. After cooling, the designs were painted by hand to the underside of the glass and genuine leather/pigskin in metallic gold was applied to the bottom, along with the maker's stamp. By the late 1960's the company reportedly used 8 basic paint colours and 50 distinct blends.
Condition: Very good. No breaks, cracks or repairs. Some wear, tiny flakes to the gold. This item was hand-made and is decorative only. Not for food, oven or dishwasher. Clean with damp soft cloth and do not soak in water.
Dimensions: Approximately 5-1/2" diameter x 1-1/4" high
This is a very unique item that would go well with a mid-century modern / 1940's-1970's / atomic or retro-themed decor. Would also suit Hollywood Regency or Art Deco styles.
