lindseyevon @meagan1986 I have heard of people using them with and without the gun. There is a girl who sells these on amazon who tells all her buyers that the gun is not necessary as these cartridges are sanitized and self-piercing. I would say personal preference for you. Just be sure to sanitize hands and ears/piercing location well.
