Hi! I'm Jana I am an artist, a lover of art, colour, style, vintage and quirkiness. I mix my vintages ( that is not just wine) ;) In my last life I must have been a style and sparkle magpie. I have a very hard time stopping myself. Of course my closet builds up and when I want to introduce something new I choose a piece that I have loved and treated well and pass it on to the next lucky person. Thanks for stopping in and checking out my closet. Warning artsy stuff may appear. CHEERS :)

new_bohemian
new_bohemian Hi Jana, your art is of amazing quality! You remind my so much of my first art teacher / before uni, she loved the old masters and of course her favourite thing to work in was oils. I honestly thought that was what most of your work was. The fact that you are getting that renaissance look while trying to blend quickly with plastics, ( even with the fancy additives of today ) blows me away! You have a 🎁

new_bohemian @barbergirl10 i just agreed with you about her painting! She needs to never give that up, I have such artist to artist envy..haha..its ok I found my niche and it more a crafty art world for me 😆🥰

j7jana
j7jana @new_bohemian Wow! Thank you :D ( Sorry no emojis on a computer lol) I had a feeling when I saw your closet you were an artist. I would love to work in oil They have such an amazing power in colour That it takes a-l-o-t of layering in acrylic to achieve one paint stroke of colour saturation in oil. I developed a skin contact allergy to oil paints which I originally used and had to switch to acrylics then figure out how to achieve what I took for granted in oils.
Nov 09Reply
new_bohemian
new_bohemian @j7jana i have no clue what part of the oils would make that happen so this might be terrible advice, but have you ever tried the water based oils? Total Oxy-moron I KNOW lol! I suppose you can do the wearing gloves thing too, but that is kind of impossible to avoid touching something if you messy paint like me haha

j7jana
j7jana @barbergirl10 Hi Kim Thank you :D I am so glad to hear your an artist as well. That you found what strength The arts world would be boring if there was only one expression of it. I am not able to do what others can but I am always inspired by their works No matter what type whether its crafty art, painting, sculpture, architecture, stain-glass, writing, music, dance, theatre, history or performance etc... I always feel enriched by it

new_bohemian
new_bohemian Just trying to think maybe Oil sticks…not oil pastels, but the big fat juicy oil sticks that are wrapped and of course ridiculously expensive…and putting a layer of something like Vaseline on your skin first.. That's my only thoughts, but those pigments etc do absorb through skin something crazy fast compared to air, so you may not be an oil painter lol, this looks to be working for you! I tried to see your Gram, but u must have changed it, deleted..which I get ;)

j7jana
j7jana @new_bohemian What style and medium do you work in? I did try the glove thing What I do during my painting I stop to think about it and touch my face unconsciously in the hmm where do I want to go thing with this. That is how I found out I had this harden rash on my face that bled my Dr asked what I am using.LOL Unfortunately it is the turpentine vehicle in both water based oils and oil paints within paint itself I am allergic to. Otherwise I would use waterbased oils to get around it
Nov 09Reply
new_bohemian
new_bohemian @j7jana this is funny because most painters don't get that, they think one solid layer of acrylic is stronger than one thinner layer of oil..but don’t know what a high quality oil is like, or layers of them..omg..butter..ok..i always end up mixing to far and making messes, muddy colour..but when it was in that perfect stage that I should have stopped. 10000 times better than if I coloured with acrylic..but I don't have your colour /tone sense, just keep ❤️ art
Nov 09Reply
j7jana
j7jana @new_bohemian Totally agree with you I miss oil so much they are butter. I have been there mixing mud and pushing it to far and the painting becomes dead no matter what I do to bring it back. it is soooo hard to figure out when to stop sometimes. Have you tried under painting and sketching in acrylic topping it with oil? For oils you have to try M. Graham? It is a beautiful quality without being to hard on the wallet. I use their acrylic line I also use golden but the price matches the name
Nov 09Reply
new_bohemian
new_bohemian I have used M.Graham but it was a long time ago and when I was starting out at the community centre, so they were in not great shape. During university different teachers chose different stuff, from Stevenson’s water base..don’t recommend, to liquitex for acrylic ( they are ok but student grade I think), and golden, which like you said is golden in price but quality too. I like win & newton or

new_bohemian
new_bohemian Canadian paint makers Beam, for watercolour..they do the hand made, as do a few other people I know a little ( I don't know beam lol) only problem u could have maybe is consistency, but they are pretty good now. And turner for Gouache.
Nov 09Reply
new_bohemian
new_bohemian Having said all that pls don't mistake me for a working showing artist. I did my last yr project in fibre art /knitting & I avoided painting altogether & drew pics with the super soft hand rolled chalk pastel, that's my media if ever sit down away from ipad..Not sure how I got from A to Z but 🫶
Nov 09Reply
j7jana
j7jana @new_bohemian No problem. I think the most difficult medium is watercolour. Which is not paid not what it is worth. One mistake and it is gone. I never could do it.I made mud or holes in the paper. I admire chalk work I was never able to do it myself. There is a feel for everything You either vibe with it or not if you are producing it. I didn't have that talent along with gouache or watercolour which I admire all immensely because I couldn't do it and it takes talent.

j7jana @new_bohemian Anyways keep ongoing I would give a heart back but PC;s are limited on this platform so This is my thumbs up !!!! I watched a documentary on Sennelier chalk makers who have been around for for about 125 yrs because of how good they are . They are making paints now. I would love to try them. Anything that lasts that long must be good. I think if I started being aware of touching my face when painting. I stop it and paint with oil Training myself is a challenge :D
