A very fine toby jug specimen of Mr. Micawber, a clerk in Charles Dickens's 1850 novel David Copperfield. The potter's stamp on the bottom indicates it was made as early as 1949 by Lancaster & Sandland of Dresden Works, who manufactured Sandland Ware pottery in Hanley, Staffordshire, from 1944 until the 1970s. The Mr. Micawber toby mug is part of their Character Ware line. Given its vintage, it's in very good condition with the hand-painted colours still vibrant and vivid. There are no chips or cracks but it does have age appropriate crazing. The "white" on the black handle in the pictures are from the flash. There are no chips or flaking of paint. "Micawber" is also visible on the back of the jug at the bottom. It is 5.25" or 13.3cm tall and the diameter of the opening is 3.5" or 9cm. ****New to Poshmark?
