Mud Creek: The story of the town of Wolfville, Nova Scotia
By James Doyle Davison, Editor
In 1980, Wolfville celebrated the 150th anniversary of receiving its present name, and those particularly interested in the town's beginnings and development suggested that the full story be recorded. In January 1982, a committee from the local Historical Society began to compile a historical account. Deciding to use the skills of many writers, the Society then procured the financial assistance of the New Horizons Program of the Department of Health and Welfare. Two grants enabled the Society to publish the community's first full-length history. Mud Creek begins with "Before History" and continues through the periods of the Micmac Indians, the French Acadians, the New England Planters, the development of the village as an education centre, and of the business and social organizations, to the end of 1980. The account has special interest for former and present residents of Wolfville, and the numerous illustrations and unusually extensive index also enhance the worth of the book as a comprehensive information source for genealogists and students of social growth.
