sailormoon11 @paperstarz I don't know if I can give up on the breed but I definitely have learned the males don't live very long. My female is 7. Very healthy but we've never had a male live past 4. They are just kind of dumb lol and they get naturally fatter and it's harder for them to breathe

paperstarz @sailormoon11 we are thinking of getting him an eye surgery as well. One eye waters a lot and the vet thinks his eyelid may be rolled in and irritating it. Hard to say. He's so sensitive. But def worth it, if my heart can handle all the scares. 😖 but I'm definitely done with pets after this. They really break your heart leaving a big hole when it's time for them to go. We cremated my last baby. 😞

sailormoon11 My dogs eyes leak too. all Bulldogs do. I wouldn't put him through surgery unless it impairs his vision. On of our Bulldogs developed a cataract like film that would go away and return due to his eyes leaking so bad. He would become temporarily blind when it would build up. My dad put eye drops in all the time and it helped them go away. I wouldn't put him under surgery unless it's that bad. Most likely the vet can't fix their genetic malfunction :(

paperstarz @sailormoon11 that's what I'm thinking. I really thought for a while before getting him fixed, because it's surgery and you never know what can happen during them or so forth but he goes to daycare once a week To play and he got too friendly with a male dog and he got bite in the face. No stitches were needed but it was enough to scare me and the business so they advised we fix him. It was so close to his eye. I was scared it would happen again and it could be worse next time.

paperstarz @sailormoon11 Mello is all confidence. Guess dogs really know, he's like the perfect dog for me. He gets away with pretty much everything around me. Lol but he's so well behaved if you show him food. He will do anything! For some chicken!!! He's so funny. Oh and his bet gave me some eye drops. One drop/day. Neo Poly Gramicidin Oph Sol 10ml. Trying to figure out if it's helping. I really don't want to do the surgery & not do anything. I'm always scared of the sedation and aftercare.

paperstarz @sailormoon11 she's not a bully specialist but she's the vet for a lot of bullies in the area. She's a big fan of the breed. She said it would not be his eye but his eye lid, the bottom lid; so it's no that invasive. But it's too close IMO. She's taken care of Mello the 11 months we've had him. Oh my gosh. His birthday is in like a week!! I have to check but I think it's the 25th. 🎈🎂time!

paperstarz Thank you @bethw1971 Mello is a sweetie pie. Lately feels like he's going thru his teenager yrs. lol he's a handful. He's on anti fungal medicine due to increased tearing. 😕 who's your vet? We are considering a specialist to help determine if he needs eyelid surgery.

bethw1971 @paperstarz My vet is Dr.Pete Gilyard. One of THE best bulldog vets out there. Not sure where you are in NC, but he is in the Winston Salem area. If your dog doesn't need surgery, then he won't do it. Some vets push for everything in the world to get your money, but not him. Very reasonable too.

lyork @paperstarz Hurley is a 10 year old white bulldog and Sparrow is a 1 year old brindle. They're both males. We used to have two boxers too. Addie and Floyd, but they passed away last year. We love dogs. Have a safe trip home. So nice to meet you. I will be following your closet.

Bullies are just the best aren't they? Wouldn't change my boy for the world. 💕

mica101 Aww poor baby 😢. Too sad! He's so adorable though! We have a friend who has a Bullie too and found out she was deaf after like four months. They have some crazy stuff sometimes. Ours has crazy allergies her eyes run all the time! She also gets bladder infections poor thing. A lot of the things that go wrong with them they say is because of food. Take care of that baby! Hugs

paperstarz @mica101 ty. We sure will. We love our boy. Bullies are def high maintenance. Mello had too much bad bacteria in his tummy but he's been healthy lately cept for seizures every 12-13 days. 😔 it's def difficult to see him like that but we are in it 110% we will do anything for him. Mello also had really bad tearing. So bad we thought maybe his tearducts weren't working. Our vet decided to do limited ingredients food for him and it was almost an immediate change. 😊 what food are you giving Lucy?

mica101 Lucy is so stinkin picky! She loves loves human food and will usually deny any other food. I've had her on so many different ones. When she was little she was on science diet then one day refused it. I switched to royal canin for Bulldogs. She hated it. Then I switched it to blue buffalo. She loved that for quite a while then again she refused. Now I switch her between blue buffalo and the Kirkland brand cuz people say it's good?!

mica101 Any advise you can give would be great 😊. By the way malacetic wipes are awesome for the tear stains. We get them on Amazon and they work awesome! I also use the MANE and tail shampoo and conditioner on her and it has changed her from being itchy and dry to smooth and smells great and soft

paperstarz @mica101 Mello is just a piggy. He will eat any human food, veggies and all since I'm vegetarian. We started him off on Royal but ut was causing him to tear so now he's on blue buffalo limited formula. No grain at all. Lamb and potatoes but I recently read bullies are prone to white potato allergy, so I'm trying to see if that can be the cause. Mello hates fish dog food. He just won't eat it, other then that he seems to try anything.

paperstarz @mica101 Mello hates one thing: water. He will not drink plain water unless he is parched. Drives me crazy. We have had to rush him to the ER to give him ivs a few times. I think it's lack of water. So I'm constantly trying to push liquids. I make broth and he gobbles that up. Chicken is probably his favorite food. And he loves water with fresh watermelon juice. I cut it up and squeeze as much juice as I can. Lol I wonder how much is just him being spoiled rotten.

paperstarz All just trying to stay clear and figure out allergies. @mica101 but he looks great. His coat is soft and shiny. He doesn't have any tear stains. He does sunburn easily so he wears sunscreen if he will be out in the sun long. The thing that's been hard lately is the grass. Wet grass. I can tell it irritates his paws & it won't stop raining. I have a medicated powder he uses a few times a week. But I think i may do foot soaks again.

mica101 Oh my... Spoiled he is lol. I guess I can't talk because we only give Lucy purified bottled water (the vet says tap water may cause bladder stones and issues). Lucy loves loves water which is perfect because we live in Arizona and she needs it all day long! Veggies are last on her list and cheese is her favorite.

mica101 I've tried broth and even wet dog food and she hates it. She will look at me like would you eat it? No... Then why would u feed it to me lol. I'm sure Lucy would love to meet him. mica101 Well we have to give her something different everyday. So as not to upset her tummy we stick with two foods and alternate days. One day is blue buffalo and the next she'll eat right now it's Kirkland.

paperstarz @aprilboyd225 thank you. He's my fat baby boy. He does have a tail but it's like a piggy's tail. It's like a swirl, curly thing. But it's not imbedded, so it's good so far. I have to clean his tail pocket every week. His vet says it's a lovely tail. Lol we haven't had any problems or had to worry about removing it. 🙂 do you have a bulldog, too?

aprilboyd225 Used to have 2, Chance and Chleo. Chance had to have his tail removed bc it swirled INWARD, like a cork screw. It was so sad. He wasn't himself at all for like a week. I was telling my husband Chance liked to sleep in the "X" of my wooden coffee table base, until he no longer fit and pushed the glass of the top, breaking it!!! My lil loves. Ex got them in divorce but I know my 4 y/o son would fall IN LOVE with one. Just have had zero luck finding any... Yours is beautiful. Miss my little clowns.

paperstarz @aprilboyd225 im sry you lost your boys. I know what you mean about the tails. Mello's is outward, so far so good. He does have epilepsy though & is one 2 medications to control them. They were getting so bad. But thank God we are almost 4 weeks without one. 🙏🏻 you should definitely get one. They completely change your life. But I'm sure you know that.
