"Protection and Wonder"
A dreamcatcher made from a braid of sweetgrass (the supply I bought was harvested from and braided on tribal lands). About 16" tall overall counting ties and feathers. Depth in space is roughly 12" wide by 6" deep. I used imitation sinew for the webbing, and four duck wing feathers. A flint point and porcupine quill (super sharp!) complement the center. Hangs from a leather tie.
The Ojibwe story of the dreamcatcher says that the webbing captures bad dreams and nightmares, while the hole in the center allows the good dreams to pass through and filter down through the feathers to the dreamer below.
Sweetgrass is a sacred medicine representing the hair of the Earth Mother. It is believed to call in good spirits.
Porcupine medicine is about trust, faith, and a renewed sense of wonder in life.
Flint is grounding and protective.
I am NOT a Federally-enrolled tribal member, however there is some Choctaw on my grandmother's side of the family, and I have been making dreamcatchers since I was a child. :)
