NIPPON BOWL - PEONIES

This item is a vintage Nippon porcelain bowl, measuring 8 1/2 inches wide, with a bold pattern on the inside of the dish - large stylized peach-colored peony blossoms with cobalt blue leaves on a white background. These are surrounded by a wide band of matte gilding with layered designs of cobalt blue and bright gold that run around the inside lip. The edge of the bowl is quartered by tab extensions that carry medallion designs that match the gilding, creating an interesting profile for the piece. On the outside bottom the bowl carries the Nippon 'M and Wreath' mark (as shown), indicating that it was imported through Morimura Bros. of New York City, and dating it to the 1920's and the 1930's. It is in excellent condition, without cracks, chips, stains, wear, or any other damage or defect. Very striking! (Our apologies for the photos! Any white spots are reflections off the shiny glaze, and not damage to the bowl - which is perfect.)
