Wander into the 18th century. Feast your eyes on thatched and stone cottages. Revel in Tudor, half-timbered 'black and white' buildings. Lacock, on the southern edge of the Cotswolds, was once a center of the medieval wool trade. Today, it still reflects those times, and no TV aerials or overhead cables spoil the scene.
The films Pride and Prejudice, Moll Flanders and Emma were partially filmed in the village, and Downton abbey used Lacock as a setting. By far, the most popular film connection, however, is with the Harry Potter series of films.
Today, Lacock is owned by the National Trust, who preserve the village's buildings which all date between the 13th and 18th century. Despite being a tourist attraction, Lacock remains a living, breathing village with most of its houses rented out to people whose families have lived there for several generations.
