Purchased the hand painted glass beads at Vancouver Expo 1986.
Reminiscent of Chinese lanterns in their designs & colours, you can get the necklace just in time to celebrate Chinese new year! For the rest of the year and for the rest of us, a unique treasure anew.
Indeed, their colours are reminiscent of imperial Chinese treasures with their dominant imperial yellow (only the emperor could wear yellow); their dominant black (like lacker); the burnt red and green (respectively, of coral & jade); the deep cobalt blue (a rare & expensive pigment used in the dynastic blue and white porcelain) and, of course, the touches of gold. Some representations are reminiscent of flowers, stars, planets and Chinese characters.
Some of the big beads are separated by a variety of smaller beads (e.g., lime & blue glass, silver & gold color, ABS, etc ).
Hues vary with light.
At the back, the glass beads are separated by aged-like golden metal links and the necklace closes w/a gold coloured filigree safety clasp.
Length: approximate in inches: 8 X 2
Condition: EUC
Nb it was custom mounted in the 1990’s by my talented aboriginal friend.
Knackmixing ideas: Can be paired with an infinity of colours. Its dominant black and yellow will liven up any black or yellow outfit. Examples are the long skirt with animal prints and Roman numerals and the skirt pants with shoes, animal prints and flowers, both listed separately.
