Though it may be a hot take, the New York Mets' black hats and jerseys were among the team's most stylish of all.
1998 saw the introduction of black to the ball club's livery after 36 years of wearing royal blue, and no one rocked the look better than newly acquired catcher, Mike Piazza. In '98, Piazza notched a cool 32 home runs and 111 RBI after his arrival from a five-game stint as a Florida Marlin, making it clear to the Mets that he could hit as well as he could catch.
Piazza — who'd go on to be a Hall of Famer — helped the Mets make the playoffs in '99 after a torpid 10-year drought, the likes of which was followed by a World Series appearance in 2000 against their bitter rivals, the New York Yankees, a battle known today as the "Subway Series."
