In 1851, Donald McKay, a renowned shipbuilder, launched several notable clipper ships, including the Flying Cloud and Stag Hound. The Flying Cloud was famous for its speed and record-breaking voyages, particularly the passage from New York to San Francisco. The Stag Hound was an "extreme clipper," distinguished by its hull design and was the only one of its kind built by McKay.
