Excellent condition - there are no major flaws such as damage to the imagine itself, however, the bottom edge is worn and there are some marks from the previous frame.
The finest collection of Indian Totem Poles in North America is to be found in the Skeena River District in British Columbia, this is due to the Department of Indian Affairs which, in 1925, began a project for the preservation of these and other Indian relics. Totem Poles are of different types; the difference being in the purpose for which they were erected.
Most of the types may be seen in the picture by Hornyansky. The first in order of development, the "House Pillar" cannot be seen, being inside the building. The House Pillars supported the roof beams at the four corners of the community house. They were carved to illustrate stories from tribal mythology, much like a family crest.

Nicholas Hornyansky was born in Budapest, in 1896, a member of the Canadian Painters, Etchers and Engravers; the Ontario Society of Artists; the American Color Print Society and Southern Printmakers. His work is represented in most of the important galleries of Europe, the United States and Canada, and he has won numerous awards for his original aquatints in various competitions.
