This is a large antique American pressed glass bowl, circa 1910, in the ‘bent’ shape that characterizes a banana bowl. The name was honestly acquired, as at that time bananas were just then becoming regularly available, and were shown off in the fashionable table centerpieces of the day.
The banana bowl is made of heavy flint glass in the ornate ‘Pendant’ pattern, a design which has an inner ring of fine facetted loops capped with another of squared sunbursts, and with fans running out from the loops to a toothed edge. The pattern was produced by several different manufacturers, the best known of which was the Indiana Glass Company.
The bowl is approximately 11 inches long, about 6 ½ inches at the widest, and stands 3 ½ inches high. It is in excellent condition, without cracks, chips, scratches, clouding, or any other damage or defect.
