This is a pair vintage Sorrento Marquetry Folding Bookend. These wooden book holders feature beautiful Italian inlaid wood, warm tones, and smooth-working metal hinges that allow them to fold flat or extend to hold multiple books. A classic example of Sorrento marquetry, this piece showcases carefully arranged wood veneers in a geometric pattern—perfect for adding charm to a home office, library, or bookshelf. Sorrento marquetry comes from the Sorrento region of Italy, known for its traditional inlaid woodwork. The style became extremely popular with tourists after WWII, and many small workshops produced hinged bookends, music boxes, jewelry boxes, and trays using the same marquetry technique.
