Authentic Primitive Hand-Forged Antique Farm Bell
This beautifully rugged bell is a genuine piece of farmhouse history. Its rounded, elongated shape is characteristic of traditional livestock bells used across Europe and North America to keep track of grazing animals like sheep, cows, or goats. The bell likely dates to the late 19th or early 20th century.
Key Features & Condition:
Material: Heavy, rugged iron or steel with a deep, crusty primitive patina and surface rust, highly valued for its rustic, aged appearance.
Design: Distinctive rounded/oblong body with a classic top loop for attaching a leather strap or yoke. The bell shows evidence of being hand-forged or crudely manufactured, which adds to its authentic charm.
Clapper: Includes its original or an aged internal metal clapper (visible in photo 34792.jpg), which allows it to still chime. The clapper is a simple metal rod attached inside the crown.
Patina: The bell has a wonderful, uneven, and heavily textured rustic finish, with deep browns and black oxidation.
Dimensions (Approximate):
Height (to top of loop): Approximately 4.5 inches
Diameter (at base): Approximately 3 inches
Styling & Use:
This antique bell is a unique collector's item and a fantastic accent for:
Farmhouse/Rustic Decor: Place it on a shelf, use it as a standalone sculptural piece, or hang it on a door for a charming door chime.
Primitive Collections: A genuine piece of ironware perfect for collectors of old farm implements.
