Beautiful antique tin box. The Princess Mary Christmas gift box was a brass tin originally containing a number of gifts (not included) intended to be distributed to all members of the armed forces of the British Empire at Christmas 1914, during the First World War.
The lid sports a portrait of Princess Mary, two Ms, “Christmas 1914” at the bottom, “Imperium Britannicum” at the top, as well as “France”, “Russia”, “Belgium”, “Japan”, “Servia”, and “Montenegro”.
Designed by Stanley Adshead and Stanley Ramsey.
Approximately 5” (12.6cm) x 3.3” (8.5cm) x 1” (2.5cm) deep.
Some scuffs and scratches, and a few small dings. Some oxidation inside and on bottom. Hinge is in good working order. Please see photos.
