Struck by The Royal Mint to commemorate the coronation of Her Majesty The Queen
The first commemorative crown of Her Majesty’s long reign
Features a portrait of The Queen mounted on her horse Winston.
With an obverse design by sculptor and engraver Gilbert Ledward RA.
The reverse design features the four quarters of the Royal Arms, each depicted within a shield. In between each shield is one of the four emblems of the home nations – a rose, a thistle, a shamrock and a leek – ¬and in the centre of the design is a crown. Inscribed around the edge of the coin are the words ‘FAITH AND TRUTH I WILL BEAR UNTO YOU’, which were included in the pledge of allegiance made by His Royal Highness Prince Philip The Duke of Edinburgh to The Queen during the coronation ceremony.
