RARE Atalanta Weller red & black sculptural wedge sandal, EU40/US9.5 NWT

Continuing our tour through my top 10 shoe designers, we arrive at Atalanta Weller, and these uniquely architectural wedges covered in glossy cabernet patent leather topped with a graceful cage of the finest black nubuck suede straps. And if that wasn't already enough of a feast for your senses, the entire footbed and leather lining is finished in a lovely aqua leather. Not that anyone would necessarily see that when you're wearing the shoes, but they look fantastic off the foot. Even more fantastic on the foot. Atalanta Weller created a huge buzz when she first launched her own collection in 2010; even more so after winning the New Gen award 3 years in a row. I love her very graphic design sensibility - her shoes are immediately identifiable and definitely stand out in a crowd of same old, same old. I can't find any evidence that she's still making shoes, which is beyond tragic, and it means her designs are now virtually impossible to find. The last picture features a stiletto model of the same design, to show how the straps sit on the foot. This pair is marked size 40, but they will fit a size 9.5 comfortably, and should work for up to size 10. I've tried them on but never worn them.
