This is a vintage English cheese dish in the ‘Rosetime’ chintz pattern from Lord Nelson potteries. Rosetime’s design is a delectable mix of full-blown white, pink, and yellow roses with sprays of blue flowers on a very pale yellow ground.
The ‘chintz’ patterns in chinaware were named for their resemblance to the printed cotton floral fabrics of the same name. Their popularity was part of the ‘cottage decorating’ trend that became a fashion item in the 1920’s and continued into the 1950’s.
The bottom of the cheese dish is 6 inches long and 4 ½ inches wide; the wedge-shaped top is an inch smaller in both dimensions so that it leaves an inch wide lip on the bottom plate. Both pieces are in excellent condition, without cracks, chips, scratches, stains, or any other damage or defect.
