A striking and elegant 1940s evening gown by Frank Starr for Ted Shore, an original piece of Old Hollywood–era couture glamour. This floor-length black gown features delicate spaghetti straps, a heavily sequinned bodice, a softly cinched waist, and a flowing black chiffon skirt with beautiful movement.
The skirt is designed with two intentional gathered fabric drapes, each finished with small sewn-in weights—one centered and one slightly off to the side—creating a dramatic, fluid silhouette when worn or in motion. A thoughtful detail rarely seen in modern garments and a hallmark of mid-century craftsmanship.
Condition
Very good vintage condition overall.
There are two very small imperfections in the chiffon directly beneath the sequinned bodice. These are minor, do not affect the structure (see photos).
Measurements (taken flat)
* Seam under bust: 12” across
* Widest point at top: just under 16” across
* Floor length
* Likely best fits a modern XS–S (please rely on measurements)
A rare, timeless piece perfect for collectors, special events, archival fashion lovers, or Old Hollywood enthusiasts.
