Rare antique bone chess pieces red and white complete playing set, Vintage

...Staunton chess set, antique chess set with storage box A beautiful antique natural bovine (cow) bone chess set, the white pieces in natural off-white bone, the other half tinted red. The pieces are in the classic Staunton styling - the pieces are turned from bone and screw together in parts. The set is complete with some flaws - please read the condition report carefully to avoid surprises. The set dates ca 1880-1920s, is likely to have been made in America and has been hand carved and turned. It comes with a small dovetailed wooden box with 2 unlined compartments, the colour a warm mahogany. The clasp to the front is broken and it has plenty of scratches and wear. Condition: There has been damage done to the pieces throughout the years and some have been glued together and no longer unscrew. MOST NOTABLY the king and queen parts have been mixed up, a collar lost and a top glued on the wrong base. In a sense, the red player has a short king and a tall queen. (see images). Most red pieces with rubbing to the finish, one of the rooks (tower) with a gap on the top, one of the knights with a hairline crack on the side.
