stunning&Rare! ancient viking pendant horse&headshamanic warrior charm. jorvikUK find. purchased from York Antiquities in the UK. this motif was found also amongst the older ostrogothic&scythian indo European nomad cultures of the Balkans, As well&represents shamanism&the indo European sun cult. To vikings it represents Odin's horse slepnir&the head of mimir. I was told by another collector/seller historian friend in the UK that vikings used these to symbolise rank of horse soldiers,as cavalry badges.this one is made of silver&silver was the most valuable metal ,to the vikings- so the original owner of this charm must have been a high ranking warrior. the varangian gaurd were Swedish-slavic vikings who established settlements in the Balkans,the baltic&ukraine/russia during the time of the later end of the byzantine&ottoman empires/mid-viking age. similar pendants have been found in the UK & Scandinavia. the loop at the top is original and ancient.
