"Relax-A-Cizor" device, a product from the 1950s and 1960s that was marketed as a passive exercise and weight loss machine.
The device used electrical impulses to stimulate muscles, causing them to contract.
It was sold in a suitcase-like case for home use.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) banned the device in 1970 after a five-month trial revealed it caused a variety of health problems, including muscle shocks, difficulty swallowing, and cramps.
It is considered a form of "medical quackery".
Unfortunately, the “miracle cure” Relax-A-Cizor brought a multitude of health problems and dangers instead of the desired weight reduction. The enormous intensity of the electrical impulses led to muscle shocks, unconsciousness, difficulty swallowing, cramps and vomiting. Even miscarriages and paralysis were side effects of the device, which is why the product was banned by the US government. As a result, Hollywood-based Relaxacizor Inc. went bankrupt.
Super cool vintage conversation piece.
