"Although at first I was not particularly interested in ribbons, I have added to my collection from time to time for over twenty years. But the home of my ribbons was an old cardboard box... I tried a few times to set them in some sort of order on panels, but eventually found that all my time had been wasted because some should have had badges or rosettes attached in the centre and many were inevitably missing. As no available publication seemed able to help me in my task and as, obviously, many fellow collectors would be in the same predicament, I decided to study this subject thoroughly and make the result of my research into a book. This book deals mainly with service ribbons, worn on their own on the breast, although general information on the decorations and medals they represent is also included in the text. Some of the ribbons illustrated, mainly of civilian awards, are not worn in the form of service ribbons as the medal, with its suspension ribbon, is worn at all times but should be included, as otherwise possessors of these ribbons will not know what they are..."
