This is a handsome set of six antique hollow-handled silverplate dinner knives. The pattern is 'Priscilla', which debuted in 1900 and sold under International Silver's '1847 Rogers Bros.' label. The pattern name is undoubtedly a nod to Priscilla Alden, one of the Mayflower Pilgrims, who was immortalized in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's romantic poem about unrequited love, published in 1858, entitled the 'Courtship of Miles Standish'.
Each of the knives we are offering is 9 inches long and has the antique blade shape with a blunt rounded tip. Not only are the handles silver-plated, but the steel blades are as well, dating their manufacture to before the advent of stainless steel in the mid-1930's.
The knives in the set are all in good used condition. That is to say, they have a full shine, crisp pattern details, and no dents, dings, pits, corrosion, plate loss, damage or other defects, but the blades in particular do show the accumulated small scratches that come with use - as might be expected given their age.
(Our apologies for the photography! The dark bits are reflections - not the color of the silver, which is spotless .)
Exceptionally nice!
