The Detroit Vipers were a team in the International Hockey League (IHL), a farm system for the NHL that ran between 1945 and 2001. The Vipers were founded in 1994 but folded with the league in 2001, when it was determined that the team would not be transferring to the American Hockey League (AHL). Famous Vipers included Peter Bondra, Tim Thomas, and Gordie Howie, who played one shift with the team to set a record for the most decades in professional hockey.
