The ‘chintz’ patterns in chinaware were named for their resemblance to the floral-patterned cotton fabrics of the same name. Their popularity was part of the ‘cottage decorating’ trend that became a fashion item in the 1920’s and continued well into the 1950’s.
This is a vintage tazza or pedestal dish in the ‘Somerset’ pattern from Royal Winton, featuring an all-over design with long fronds of pastel blossoms on a white ground – pink, yellow, and blue with leafy greenery.
The dish is approximately 2 ½ inches high, and 6 ½ inch wide (measured on the diagonal). It is in excellent condition, without cracks, chips, scratches, stains, or any other damage or defect.
