The beautiful red and gold spine and embossed cover of this vintage book contain the comedy of manners, School For Scandal, by Richard Brinsley Sheridan, the 18th century Irish satirist and playwright. This edition was published by G. P. Putnam's Sons The Knickerbocker Press as part of the Ariel Booklet Series in the 1910s or 20s. It is undated. Richard Brinsley Sheridan (1751-1816) was an Irish playwright and poet, also known for owning the London Theatre Royal. He was honoured with burial at Poet's Corner in Westminster Abbey, and remembered for plays such as 'The Rivals', 'The Duenna' and 'A Trip to Scarborough' as well as 'The School for Scandal', which is a satirical comedy play first performed at Drury Lane Theatre in 1777. This small book is bound in leatherette with a ribbon page marker. The pages have deckled edges. There is an Introduction and a list of other Ariel Booklet titles in the back. The cover and spine have noticeable wear and bumped corners. The marking ribbon is discolored. One of the front endpapers is missing and several pages in the front and back are yellowed and foxed. Otherwise there are no marks in the pages of the book and the binding is solid. Please see the photos. Add this little gem to your library or give it as a gift!
