These are vintage folk art dolls from the Ndebele tribe of South Africa, which are a Nguni ethnic group who live on the North-East part of the country.
These dolls are a part of their tribal culture and are associated with marriage and fertility and are meant to bring good fortune. This type was traditionally made by a grandmother and given to her granddaughter as she entered into womanhood and got married. The young woman would then care for the doll to bring good luck with fertility in her marriage. After the birth of her third child, the doll has to be given away, or it becomes bad luck to keep it.
These two dolls are looking for a good home.
The exact dating is unknown but is from before 2000, and they are in good vintage condition, but one of them has a small tear in the fabric on her head.
price is for the set. If you only want one, please let me know and I will make another listing for one doll
