Add a touch of mid-century Mexican folk art to your collection with this charming signed Tonalá bird by R. Aguirre, crafted in the traditional style of Jalisco, Mexico. Made using the brunido (burnished clay) technique, the surface was hand-polished with a stone before firing, creating a smooth, glossy finish that highlights the intricate hand-painted details. This decorative bird features floral and feather motifs in earthy tones of black, gray, and orange against a cream body, balancing gracefully on two peg-style legs. Signed “R. Aguirre / Mexico” on the underside, it dates from the 1950s–1970s, representing the artistry and charm of mid-century Mexican ceramics.
Measurements: approx. 11" × 6" × 3". Very good vintage condition with light surface wear consistent with age. No cracks or major chips. Minor natural variation on the beak reflects its handmade craftsmanship (see photos).
A perfect piece for collectors of Mexican folk art, vintage ceramics, or mid-century décor.
