This a great skort. It is short and I think it would fit an XL better. The waist laid flat is 16 inches across but as it is held up by the elastic waistband.....being a little bigger than that will help hold the skirt in place. I usually wear a 14/16 short and this fits me comfortably The shorts underneath are super comfy and the length is pretty short at approx 14.5 inches There is a zipped back pocket
