...pill box with glass window top An absolutely delightful Victorian little wood turned box, the wood possibly a fruitwood, the lid inset with a little piece of glass. Originally a watchmakers part box, or maybe even a movement transport box, it would make a wonderful presentation ring box or small jewellery storage box. The top attaches to the body with a screw thread - it was very stiff when I first received the box and even though it screws down quite a ways now, it won´t close all the way to the bottom to align flush with the body. If forced further down, the wood may split! I added a simple (piece) of rubber band to close the gap, which could be easily removed or replaced if wished. There are some marks of age and use around the body of the box, mainly some staining to the wood. I love that the piece shows age and character, so I did not polish too hard on these and some smaller ones (on sides of the lid especially) may still be rubbed off. The glass looks original and is in good condition. The screw thread looks overall in good shape with a few tiny bits missing. Size: The box is 29mm tall and 41 mm diameter. If set upright, like a regular ring box, it will fit a small - medium smooth band without a stone setting on top. If laying down - if no cushion is used) it can fit a ring up to 31 mm diameter. It would also make a pretty storage and display box for a pendant or pair of (stud) earrings.
