The Mountain in the Sea by Ray Nayler is a sci-fi novel about a marine biologist, Dr. Ha Nguyen, who travels to a remote archipelago to study a newly discovered species of super-intelligent octopuses. The corporation funding her research has its own agenda, and as she dives deeper into the mysteries of the octopuses’ communication and society, big questions about consciousness, humanity, and coexistence emerge. It’s thoughtful, a bit eerie, and blends science with philosophy in a really engaging way. This book has been previously read by me and has creases, Knicks and bumps and wrinkles on the outside from travelling with it but nothing wrong inside. Message if you have any questions.
