Own a wonderful piece of Canadian knitting history! Someone at the CBC thought their audience was thirsting for a collection of trendy knitwear modeled by the on-air talent. And so this book was born. Amazingly, the CRTC did not pull their licence.
Very 80s sweaters, vests and accessories modeled by the likes of Knowlton Nash and Luba Goy barely concealing their embarrassment. Luba’s expression telegraphs, “My union is going to hear about this”. Knowlton is obviously thinking, “Is this going to endanger my Order of Canada?”
The patterns themselves were designed by Solange Brien, who was apparently a big deal on CBC French language television at one time. She seems nice.
There are 60 patterns for both crochet and knitting, using yarns that are likely discontinued and unavailable. I haven’t knit anything from this book, so I can’t vouch for the accuracy of the patterns or techniques. But there are both photographs and graphs for all the patterns, so how bad can it be?
After you finish chuckling and binging on the nostalgia, you might find a few pieces in here worth making. That’s my position, and I’m sticking to it.
