The hat is one of the most typical Colombian symbols The Sombrero Vueltiao or Vueltiao hat is a hand made hat made by the indigenous Zenu communities that live in Tuchin, a small town in the department of Córdoba, located in the north Caribbean region of the country. The hats are made with fibers from caña flecha (wild cane). After drying the leaves and take out the veins, the leaves are cut into uniform strips; some of them are dried under the sun to keep the natural color and the others are dyed with natural dye from plants like the Jagua and Vija that gives the stripes a characteristic black color.
