Charles Dickens sixth novel Martin Chuzzlewit was first published in 1843. It tells the story of a very rich man and a high spirited nurse Sarah or Sairey Gamp, a comic fictional character in this Charles Dickens's novel. This wonderful english porcelain box is made by New Hall Hanley. The cover is an adaptation of Sairey Gamp as she gets off the stagecoach and is about to enter a saloon in an old English town.
The detailing is superb on a soft yellow colored background with a rich pumpkin colored border. This charming covered box is just perfect for trinkets, jewelry, playing cards etc.
Mark: New Hall Hanley. This mark was used from 1930-1951.
