My Daughter In Law, says it’s because they are tight enough (without being uncomfortable) to hold in all her Bumffles. (Nope that is not a word, however it’s pretty descriptive). I am a Large, and love the Medium for the same reason. As for the length it reads as 25 1/2 “ inseam, however they are more than long enough for both girls.
