This lovely antique porcelain pin dish is approximately 5 inches long and 4 inches in width, with a hand-painted scene in the 'Tree-in-the-Meadow' genre on the front.
This type of Japanese painting is given the name because it almost always combines a few predictable elements - a tree, a grassy expanse, a lake, and a small building of some sort, or a small boat. This version is done in sunset colors of orange and pink and mauve, and has the added element of a swan gliding through the placid waters. The outside edging is made up of two rows of dots of gilded moriage with a painted and gilded border between them.
The dish does show some slight wear to the gilding on the edge, as might be expected given its age, but it is otherwise in excellent condition. Marked as shown. (The transfer appears to have been damaged before firing. This is not the result of wear.)
Very pretty!
