This beautiful plate featuring 2 birds on a branch with flowers ans butterflies around, was made using an ancient Japanese technique of etching copper plate and gilding gold and silver called Chokin. Chokin art has a long history in Japanese culture dating back to the 6th century. Japanese chokin artists have used chokin art to decorate shrines, temples, armor, weapons and other military supplies of notable samurai. Today chokin art is commonly used for various items such as plates, vases, compact mirrors, and other accessories that are ardently collected by people from around the world.
