The Bogified Manuscript: Weird and Ghostly Stories
By Carrie Lee Connel
This is a short story collection made up of eight weird stories and eight ghostly stories. In her weird tales, Connel asks questions: Was love possible during the Witch Craze? What happens when one man is left alone in a prairie town? Should the sins of the children be visited upon the parents? How does a mother cope with a change in the rules of society? Connel explores fate in her ghost stories which contain the personages of Lord Byron and Claire Clairmont, the step-sister of Mary Shelley; Arthur Conan Doyle, George Eliot, and Bram Stoker; and Dante Gabriel Rossetti and his wife Lizzie Siddal. You will also meet Tracy, a girl who wants to respect the dead; Chester, a starving writer who is tired of being hungry; hard-working Cynthia, who wants to join her college friends on a trip to the Dominican Republic; and nine-year-old Fergus, who has a unique ability his twin brothers and twin sisters don't have.
Carrie Lee Connel is the author of more than 20 published short stories that have appeared in a variety of publications. She lives in Leamington, Ontario, Canada, with her husband, the poet and publisher Andreas Gripp, and their cat Sylvester.
