This is the historical gothic novel "The Bride of Lammermoor" by Sir Walter Scott. A Waverly Novel, it was part of his Tales Of My Landlord series. This edition was published by Collins Clear-Type Press circa 1930. It is a black faux pebbled leather covered book with gold embossed lettering and decoration on the spine. It contains many lovely illustrations by John E. Sutcliff and and has a section for note in the back; 416 pages.
The Bride of Lammermoor tells of a tragic love affair between young Lucy Ashton and her family's enemy Edgar Ravenswood. Scott indicated the plot was based on an actual incident.
This book is in quite good condition. The cover and spine are a little worn and smudged. There is a tidy name and date inside the front cover but otherwise the pages have only the odd smudge or crease. The binding is good and tight save one place at page 414 where the pages have separated revealing the spine (2nd to last photo). Please see the photos.
