The Chatsworth Sleeping Lion Canova's Rinaldi's Parian Stone Artforum Sculpture

Fantastic vintage (1970s) statement piece and exquisitely detailed. Measures L8" x W2.25" x H4.5" / Nicely weighted piece. This fantastic Artforum sculpture depicts a sleeping lion, crafted from high-quality reconstituted stone. The intricate details of the piece showcase the skilled craftsmanship of the manufacturer, Artforum. The sculpture was manufactured in the United Kingdom and is inspired by Canova's Rinaldi's Parian Stone -The Sleeping Lion by Rinaldo Rinaldi (1793 - 1873). The original sculpture was commissioned by the sixth Duke of Devonshire in 1823 to create this copy of one of the lions on the Rezzonico Monument in St. Peter's, Rome by Canova. A second lion, the Crouching Lion, from the original Canova sculpture sits across the gallery from this one. It was commissioned to Benaglia at the same time.
