This is "The Death of the Heart," by Elizabeth Bowen, published by Readers Union and Jonathan Cape in 1949. It has blue cloth covered boards with silver lettering on the spine and an embossed floral cartouche of the author's initials on the cover. The dust jacket is included.
It is about a sixteen-year-old orphan, Portia Quayne, who moves to London to live with her half-brother Thomas and falls in love with Eddie, a friend of her sister-in-law.
The Death of the Heart has been named as one of the 100 best modern novels, both by Time and the Modern Library.
This book is in near fine condition. There is slight wear to the corners and crushing of the spine ends, and a bit of foxing to the outer edge of the page block. The pages are very clean and unmarked. The binding is tight and sound. The dust jacket is quite tattered and discolored at the spine in particular. Please see the photos.
