"This is a book on lightning for general reader and the specialist.
Starting with an account of the thunderstorm magic of primitive peoples, and the history of lightning damage to buildings and ships before Franklin's invention of the lightning rod, it then describes Franklin's experiments and their sequel.
The chapter on the various forms of lightning has been enlarged to cover fresh information on fireballs their origin and on 'giant' lightning flashes. The revised account of knowledge of the mechanism of lightning generation and discharge includes recent discoveries relating the generation of electricity in thunderstorms to the freezing of water droplets. The new edition includes further information about protection of buildings and power lines against lightning and also discusses whistler atmospherics and artificial rainmaking."
