This is "The Good Shepherd" by C. S. Forester, published by Little Brown and Company in 1955 and is the First American Edition. It is a red hardcover book with gold lettering and decoration, including the silhouette of a destroyer, on the spine; 310 pages.
It is the story of Commander George Krause during WWII in the Battle of the Atlantic who is in command of an escort force protecting an Atlantic convoy. The movie adaptation of the book was called "Greyhound" and starred Tom Hanks.
The book is in very good condition. There is a very little wear and discoloration to the cover and spine with crushed spine ends and slightly curved boards. There is adhesive staining from tape inside the front and back covers. The pages are very clean with a little yellowing and the odd smudge. The binding is solid.
The dust jacket is in usable condition: some discoloration, small tears and chipping around the edges, clear tape along top and bottom edges, tears along edge of spine. Please see all the photos.
