"The Royal Life Saving Society has been very concerned for over 60 years with the saving of life from drowning and other causes of asphyxia.
Prompted by humanitarian ideals and encouraged by the highest patronage and leadership, the Society has always endeavoured to evolve the most efficient methods of release, rescue and resuscitation, and is eager to investigate suggestions which may further the objects of the Society.
The present Handbook for Instruction is the result of many months of study and consultation and has been revised throughout. It is presented to the public in the hope that the good work may go forward, and it is earnestly hoped that everyone who passes the Society's examinations will become a member, form classes of instruction and help to extend the usefulness of the Society."
Glued into the back is an 'Ontario branch' list of examination fees by which you can discern the ascending levels of expertise and certification of the time.
Note: lifesaving techniques have evolved considerably in the intervening years since this guide was published [and that's actually part of why this book is interesting]
