This is "Thunder in the Earth," by Edwin Lanham, published by Harcourt Brace and Company in 1943. It has blue-green cloth covered boards with white and red lettering on the spine. There is no dust jacket. This a fictional story about the Texas oil fields of the 1930s. "Here is Texas in the 1930's going through the turbulent climax of the last of the reckless and unprincipled oil towns. Cobb Walters, drunk with luck and life, symbolizes the bold drama of the modern story of oil. The blind and terrible compulsions which drive Walters through his emotional and business life are set down with such complete understanding that the reader feels more than the panic, hysteria, and upheaval of a man. Lanham gives us the whole physical and spiritual wreckage and triumph of a town, an American town victimized and energized by the magic impetus of oil." There is some wear, etc. to the cover and spine along with bumped corners. There is a previous owners name inside the front cover. The pages have some yellowing and the odd smudge. The binding is tight and sound. Please see all the photos. Add this little gem to your library or give it as a gift!
