Kokeshi are Japanese wooden dolls that have been crafted for more than 150 years as a toy for children, originating from the northeastern region of Japan. They are handmade from wood and have a simple trunk and head with a few thin, painted lines to define the face. In the traditional style of kokeshi they have no arms or legs.
