2018 update: This is Velvet, my 23 year old cat. I'm slashing prices today (her asthma medicine just went up to $240/month yesterday just while I was saving for the carpal braces! 😖) But our animals are pure love & bring so much joy ... cherryblast Awh the poor thing has asthma? Just curious, what do they give the kitty for asthma. I have asthma and I know exactly what it feels like to not breathe well or be able to catch your breath. Do they treat kitties the same as people, with animals?

fabulust @cherryblast yes! She takes a human Flovent inhaler which is connected to a "spacer" (a tube that had a cone over mouth and nose) made by aerokat and the medication goes into the tube and then she takes 10 breaths. Her asthma got worse & she was put on an oral steroid for a few months & they think that's what caused the ligaments in her front paws to weaken and when she took a jump from a high place they gave out (which is why we are raising money for the lwrist" braces now).

cherryblast Omg girl I'm so happy we connected. So there are these cool groups on fb that are like PAY IT FORWARD Groups so whenever I can I PIF. So, I use Flovent. What is the mcg on the inhaler? I may be able to help you out!! If it's the same I can GIVE you an inhaler for free !! @fabulust

cherryblast I'm assuming they put her on prednisone. That is a great drug but also a harmful drug. Can do things to bones etc so I bet that's exactly what happened to her. Poor baby. I hope I can help you save some money

fabulust @cherryblast you are exactly right. It was Prednisolone (very similar) and there are so many pros/cons to each one, especially at her age. So now we have to do 2 puffs of the inhaler per day but it's not as effective as the oral steroid. So complicated!

fabulust @cherryblast no, I missed the post... Thank u for pointing it out! Wow! She uses Flovent HFA 110 mcg. That would be wonderful & I would love to check out the PIF pages/groups. I'm a big believer of paying it forward & will join to help others as well. I haven't been active on FB so I'm a bit out of the loop - but for that, I will get back on and involved.

So I don't mean to imply comparison, just my own frugality. mbt_2022 Your poor baby. I'm going through the same thing right now with my 10 month old kitty 😿. Already been to er once & nothing working yet. Next step is Flovent w/ spacer but based on your story, I'm scared of the side effects. Thinking going the holistic route. Wondered if you tried that or if I didn't work?? Thanks 😿😫

fabulust @rebeccalpn the Flovent & spacer have worked well (the oral steroids are what we think led to the ligament breakdown which led to the injury). Try to find the lowest dose to maintain and avoid triggers (allergies, weather, etc). Sometimes it changes over time also. She didn't get asthma until later in life, then it eased up (she just turned 22) and we were able to go to every other day doses.

fabulust @rebeccalpn I haven't heard of many holistic remedies but some people say that they've been able to find a diet that works to reduce attacks. She did better on grain free, organic. But she's been on RX food again and actually just had her first attack today in over a month. We just found out she has a tumor in her mouth & possibly pancreatic cancer. Lots of appointments next week.

Would love to send you my email but so worried about sharing it publicly 😬 so please tell me how to delete. Vets aren't sure why he developed this severe asthma. Not sure if true asthma or if related to something else. Still figuring it out. 🙀
